LIGHT MANEUVERS | 1984
1984 [myrrh]
Caught In the Act, and the subsequent success of that project and tour, were an indispensable foundation to build upon. The final pieces of Light Maneuvers with its compelling songs gathered together under an equally compelling theme of spiritual battle, came together while at a secluded camp in eastern Canada. While taking a break from the road, in the midst of one of our heavy tour schedules, a creative sweet spot graced the band. The songs we came to those sessions with, and the ones that were birthed during that time, came fast and were among the best we had written. We returned to Little Mountain Sound Studio, in Vancouver British Columbia, where the band recorded its first two projects. Under the skillful direction of Bob Rock, the sound now established, continued to advance with tremendous clarity. There was the now typical energetic and witty Servant (Poolside Logic, War Dance) and several radio hits, at one moment moving (Surrender), and the next heroic, (We Are the Light). An apocalyptic mantle is offered drawing both from history, (Born in the Fire) as well as the present, (Battlecry and Courage to Burn). Some storytelling rounded out the feel (One at Heart, Neighborhood and Zero Minus One).
